Ford Seeks New Mobility Solutions in Africa

Ford, along with nonprofit Riders for Health, is vowing to help researchers and programmers get a better grasp of how cars, bikes and other methods of transportation can work together to come up with new mobility solutions to enhance people’s lives in rural parts of the world. So far, Riders for Health has delivered health care access to approximately 21.5 million people.

The team will hover over regions where no widespread system of vehicle-maintenance services exist. These areas include Liberia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Kenya, and Malawi. The Gambia’s spotty infrastructure and a productive rainy season means dirt roads are habitually washed away after a storm. In many places the roads are so fragmented, the Gambian government doesn’t even know where they are.
